BRILLIG invite you into our “SPEAKEASY”, a world all our own that’s filled with swingin’ gin joints,
smokey Bourbon bars, Berlin Weimar decadence, and exclusive underground charm.
After a sold-out and acclaimed Fringe Fest season, where the show picked up a Weekly Award for Best Music Show, Brillig reprise their popular collection of newly written songs and a few classics. Once again the Grace Emily will be transformed into Brillig’s own “Speakeasy” club, a perfect setting to chase away the winter blues.
The one-night-only show will be an official part of newly announced Adelaide festival: “Umbrella – Winter City Sounds”.
Blending enchanting Americana with Weimar-era cabaret Brillig perform their show with acoustic and electric guitars, electric and fretless bass, accordion, ukulele, harmonica and the featured lead vocals of Elizabeth Reid & Matt Swayne. With sly humour, off the cuff banter and sincerity the Brillig trio deliver crafted songs with a sense of occasion and purpose.
Cautionary tales, drinking odes, and a tip of the hat to the 1920s – both USA’s prohibition & Germany’s decadance of this time – fill Brillig’s song list. These songs themselves filled with sinners, saints, dancers, drinkers and those who are looking only for redemption.
Prohibition never tasted so good!
